MATLAB/ SIMULINK BASED IMPLEMENTATION OF MODIFIED SEPIC BOOST CONVERTER ON GRID CONNECTED PV ARRAY SYSTEM

On one side, environmental concerns, free availability and government’s promotional policies are some of the motivational factors due to which out of many renewable energy resources, solar energy is being preferred now-a-days. Whereas, on another side, it offers many challenges for the researchers when it has to be integrated with utility grid, due to issues like involvement of many complex electrical equipment, DC/AC conversions, various voltage levels, complex grid codes and selection of accurate modeling technique for any specific application. Additionally, another challenge is to improve its performance to keep pace with the other resources of energy production. Therefore, in this work, dynamic modeling of PV system connected to grid which is comprised of various components like PV array, DC-DC boost converter, voltage source inverter (VSC) linked through transformer and filter to utility grid, has been done. Further, modeling of associated control circuitry is also elaborated and analyzed. Apart from this, the major contribution of the work which is design of modified SEPIC (Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter) boost converter has also been done and implemented on the same system. Comparison of simulated results shows improved efficiency and performance of this converter in contrast to conventional DC- DC boost converter.
