EXPERIMENT FOR IDENTIFICATION OF INTERNAL HOST USING NAT DETECTION ALGORITHM

There are many methods to detect host connected to NAT (Network Address Translator), a technique accessing public IP address space by modifying private IP address space. In this paper, a technique is used for identifying the number of hosts connected to the NAT by extracting the information of source IP, source port, IPID according to the order of arrival of the SYN packets and identifying the internal hosts of NAT by analyzing and grouping the port pattern. For the experiment, four hosts are connected to the NAT and a utility is used for periodical connection to a website in each host. In case of a small number of hosts, the analysis is possible without critical issues, but the more hosts are connected, the complexity of analysis increases. And in case of using only one web browser, it shows the linearity, but in case of more than one web browser, several distributed lines are found. In spite of such problem, the identification of the number of hosts connected to the NAT is not problematic for a small number of hosts.
